I am rarely politically opinionated, but this statement accidentally fell into place.
I started off doing an abstract design, based on something I sketched in my notebook. Just some horizontal lines with a divider, done at the same time as I did the sunset fences and falling dots. I just printed this one a bit later.
When it came to colouring in I decided on bright colours, in this case yellow and blue. I thought the blue represented the sea and the yellow land, so I thought I would call it “the land and the sea”.
Standing back, I realised this was the colours of the flag of a certain country currently in the world news.
I decided to add a little red, representing lost opportunity. Given the political narrative at the time I did this, I renamed the work “social truth”.
Make of it what you will.
This is the original, the final version was flipped.
